Emberhold Legends
Emberhold Legends is the rare mobile RPG that doesn't feel like a menu with a story bolted on. You build a party of four, each with distinct roles, and work through hand-drawn regions that slowly reveal a mystery about a fading city. Combat is turn-based but snappy, with timed taps that add a little damage if you nail them.
The progression is generous without being brainless. You get real choices about which skills to unlock, and respeccing is cheap enough that you can experiment. I spent a full evening just rebuilding my healer into a hybrid attacker and it changed how every fight played out.
It runs well even on older phones, and the writing has a dry sense of humor that kept me reading dialogue I'd normally skip. For a game you play with one thumb on the couch, it punches far above its size.
What we liked
- Flexible party building with cheap respecs
- Turn-based combat with a light timing layer
- Story worth actually reading
